![]() What sold me the most, though, was the small and supportive community. In addition, I will be able to keep the languages that I have learned at the LFC at fluency level. When I visited Scripps for the first time in summer 2021, I was amazed at how the architecture was so different from the other colleges, which made it stand out in my mind. After looking at women's colleges such as Bryn Mawr, Scripps, Mount Holyoke, and Barnard, I ultimately decided on Scripps. But, after touring a variety of colleges, I decided this type of college would be a good fit for me because it removes barriers for women in STEM classes. Lauren: Initially, I wasn’t specifically looking for a women's college. Barnard has small discussion-based classes, wide access to classes and resources through Columbia, and a strong support system for after I leave. However, after visiting both Columbia and Barnard, I realized that it had many of the values I was looking for. I had heard about it, but initially wasn't interested as it was an all women's college. I visited many of the universities in New York last year, and hadn't even considered Barnard at that point. Maia: I’ll be attending Barnard College in NYC next year! I had known for a long time that I wanted to end up in NYC, whether it was during college or after. I ultimately decided on Scripps because it has a strong language program with the opportunity to stay in a foreign language dorm, and it’s part of a consortium, meaning that I would get a Women’s College feel while also being able to attend co-ed classes at other colleges. When I visited Smith, Scripps and Wellesley, I immediately understood how much that environment would encourage its students to take up space and not let themselves be intimidated by others. They recognized that much of their confidence came from their time at a Historically Women’s Colleges. When I started looking into Historically Women’s Colleges, I was surprised by how self-assured the alums were. Can you share with us where you’ll be attending, why you chose an all women’s college, and what made it your top choice?īridget: I’m going to attend Scripps College, in California, as part of their class of 2026!
